Ministral 8B is Mistral AI's October 2024 edge-focused dense model (8B parameters), using an interleaved sliding-window attention pattern for fast, memory-efficient inference and supporting up to 128K context, available under Mistral's research and commercial licenses. It targets on-device and privacy-critical deployments such as local translation, offline assistants, and robotics, and doubles as a low-latency function-calling intermediary for multi-step agentic workflows; it was superseded in this role by the December 2025 Ministral 3 8B.
